The Irony Of Being Financial Smart

You’re smart, but which smart are you?

There are 3 types of financially smart people in this day and age of the world. There is the thriftily smart, leveragingly smart, and the value smart.

Let’s unhinge a little more info on the value smart people. When you’re value smart, you understand and appreciate how much a given item values and you’d break limbs to ensure that whatever you’re paying, you’re getting the most out of it.

You’d pay a hundred dollar for an item that you feel should cost a hundred dollar, and nothing more, even if that was your only hundred dollars for the month.

If there was a hire purchase deal that lets you get 5 of that items for that hundred dollar that you possess currently, you staunchly decline as the interest rates that rack up overtime aren’t beneficial for you.

Though you get more items and paying a much lesser amount, albeit in installments, hire purchase deal breakers are the last thing on your mind.

Paying interests on these products are wasteful and you believe that spending more in the long run is an unwise form of return on investments.

You’re value smart.

You’re smart but you may lose out on getting more out of what your dollars can.

Perhaps you’re uncertain that paying off a monthly amount bears too much of a financial stress, nevertheless, smart is smart.

And then there are those that chooses to leverage their hundred dollars per month.

These are the ones who articulate in getting the best deals as much as they can, even though the interests racks up in the long run.

To them, it’s worth it that you’re able to utilise more tools and applications as soon as possible, thus gaining much ground in productivity, while reasoning that the accumulated interests pays off by itself, thanks to an early start in productivity.

But of course when things go wrong, they go really wrong, as seen recently with the recession where Dubai World, leveraging on huge debts, got hit hard.

Then again, you could argue that it has transformed and cemented the emirate as a luxury hub for financial, entertainment and lifestyle services.

If it didn’t leverage on debts, it would never have achieved this much.

So when you’re leveraging, and unless you’re unlucky (like having a recession hit you), you’re still smart.

You’re leveragingly smart.

You’re smart, but there’s a liaibility on your shoulders and unless you’re aptly covered, you’re tackling plenty of risks heads on.

The bigger the risks, the greater the rewards eh?

Finally we come to the thriftily smart.

They scrimp, they save, they find alternatives and they make sure that they absolutely only get the things that they need, and not just the things that they want.

Why spend hundreds on a branded jeans when there’s a bargain cheap option?

It’s not that they don’t possess desires but their thrifty ways ensure that they face less risks, carry less liabilities, and ultimately spending less while saving more.

Being thrifty is excellent, and it is a sure way of ensuring that you’re able to survive whatever ominous onslaught the future may bring.

Best of all, there’s very little to worry about financially and life’s a breeze.

You’re thriftily smart.

You’re smart and trading peace of mind for luxuries is never your lifestyle choice.

Though it brings you lesser gains and affordability, you’re in it for the long, comfortable run.

There’s more to invest within life than mere financial or material products, right?

These topics are indeed open ended and come with plenty of angles to tackle with.

So before you think that you’re smart (whereby you’re an advocate of one of these three characteristics), it’s good to know that there is never a complete/perfect solution or advocacy.

There are always holes in any given situation and I suppose the best way to describe a financially smart person is when he or she possesses all three characteristics and is able to react proactively to any situation and conditions.

Now that’s real smart.

How To Avoid Scams When Trying To Work From Home

Let’s face it, scams are everywhere and the bad news for us all is that they are odourless, and appears harmless most of the time.

They’re like the H1N1 virus — hard  to kill and very very dangerous.

However if you have been on the topic of  ’Work from home’ you will soon enough realise that there is a sure-fire method to see if an opportunity is a scam or a legitimate business.

Anything, and I really mean ANYTHING that promises a 4 figure or 5 figure incomes within a few weeks to a month of jonining is a potential scam.

In this scenario, quite possibly the only ones getting the 4 figure or 5 figure incomes are the Scammers themselves.

The truth is that there is absolutely NO way that anyone can get rich overnight without involving a scam of some sort.

Any true business opportunity requires hard work, dedication and plenty of constant work before it takes off and allows you to reap any real  rewards.

A real business would naturally present you a business proposal to mull over before you commit any capital or investments and in the online world, a real business opportunity will be of no different.

It will promise you the potential returns and systems or processes, but the key element here is that you will be presented with the risks as well.

And scams generally WILL NEVER present any form of risks within its sales page, and instead paint an extremely desirable story of glory and riches in front of your eyes.

Be fully aware of this, as it is very easy to get sucked into such desires, because we’re humans after all.

Hell I would even jump at a chance that promises me thousands of dollars by just signing up for minimal investments within a short period of time.

Nevertheless I don’t, but would you?

You probably would, but I would raise a red flag to you here by mentioning that before you join any business opportunity, please do your homework dutifully and research thoroughly on the company and the owners of the business.

If in doubt, search Google.com for instant information and indeed you will find plenty of information to guide you towards your success.

Stay wise and alert and if there is an advice that I van impart you with about scams,, then it is to treat EVERY business opportunity as a scam.

That way, you won’t be too hasty or too rash in making decisions, and  where if anything sounds too good to be true, then it probably is.

Here’s to your success and remember, it’s not about the money, it’s the journey.

What Does Vegetables Have To Do With Affiliate Marketing?

I hated Vegetables, but what does it have to do with Affiliate Marketing?

When I was a young man of 10 years old, I was a rather playful boy, and without mention, I prefer toys or doodling over chores anytime, back then.

However, as talented as I was, my doodles were never really appreciated much by my late mum, partly because I chose the living room sofa as my canvas and in the end the only reward I’d receive were nagging words of lesson from Mummy, as I’d affectionately call her.

I remember how I used to tag along whenever she goes to the market and I especially look forward to when it’s time to buy the vegetables.

I have a confession to make — that I do not like greenies or vegetables, but I would always pull Mummy over to this particular stall, which was seen over by a middle aged lady, or whom I call Vegetable Lady, and buy our vegetables from her.

I would give all sorts of reasons like ‘this vegetable is so green and fresh’ or ‘let’s try this weird looking green stuffs, I think I’m going to love it’, and not give up until Mummy buys some.

Of course I end up not eating most of the vegetables, and knowing that I didn’t enjoy vegetables then why did I get Mummy to buy them?

I was rewarded by Vegetable Lady.

You see, back then, whenever Mummy bought vegetables, I would be given a sweet from the Vegetable Lady.

When you’re 10 years old, a sweet is a big reward!

I was being rewarded simply for getting Mummy to buy vegetables, and if you look closely within this story, this is Affiliate Marketing in its simplest form.

I was an affiliate marketer without even realising.

Here’s how an affiliate marketing equation would look like:

Customers buy Products that are promoted by Marketers, that are sold by Vendors. Vendors then give Marketers Commissions for helping them clinch the sale.

If we inserted my story into the equation:

Mummy buys Vegetables, that are promoted by Me, that are sold by Vegetable Lady. Vegetable Lady then gives Me Sweets for helping her clinch the sale.

Easy eh?

If you can relate to this story then I’m sure that the equation can relate to you at some point in your life as well.

You would also fully understand that to succeed as an affiliate marketer, you need to answer these questions before you can tackle the business head on successfully.

1. Do you have a trusted Vendor to partner with?

2. Do you have a workable Product to promote?

3. Do you have an attaractive marketing pages for Customers to view the products?

4. Can you convince the website viewers into clinching a sale and earning your Commisions?

5. And are You ready to commit time and dedicate energy into this newly found business?

Wow, big questions indeed.

These are the questions an Internet Marketer indulging in Affiliate Marketing needs to ask and convincingly have the answers to before venturing out into this work from home business model.

This is indeed an easy way for anyone to start earning money online.

No doubt Affiliate Marketing can be explained much more than within these pages, but hopefully my story is adequate enough an introduction as to what Affiliate Marketing is all about.

With plenty of dedication, hard work and smart marketing plans, your success is never too far behind.

Anyway, I suppose vegetables aren’t so bad after all.

What Do I Need To Start A Home Business?

I’ve mentioned before that it isn’t easy trying to chart your own route within the world wide web, but the good news is that there are plenty of options in the market to get you started.

Depending on the type and the nature of the business that you’re in, the answer varies but there are things in common that you will need in bulk.

1. A Product or A Service
Affiliate marketing, multi-level-marketing and blogging are just a few of the hundreds, or possibly thousands, of different ways that you can indulge yourself with selling a physical product that you don’t manufacture yourself or a providing a service to a business that might be needing it.

Or you can create handicrafts to sell online via blogshops or classifieds as well.

2. A Reliable Computer
You don’t want your hard disk to crash with all your precious data right? If you can afford to, back up often too.

I can’t stress enough how important it is to back up your data, as I have seen countless times how people moan over a crashed hard disk and unable to retrieve any data at all.

3. Good Internet Connection
This is your highway to success, so it makes sense that you want a quick and responsive internet connection, so that your response to your customers are just as quick and responsive.

Also since you will be marketing online, it’s very important to have an instant and round the clock access to your business.

4. Courage
Plenty of courage is required as poor returns might cause you to lose a little bit of drive, so with a bit of courage, you will learn to ward off all of the early setbacks and plough on continuously.

Also, if you’re like me living in Sunny Singapore, an internet marketer working from home is almost unheard of, so society will generally tend to have a negative view on this business, so definitely even a little bit of courage goes a long way in strengthening the foundation of your faith in this industry.

5. YOU!
A smart, savvy, disciplined, hard-working YOU is all that’s needed to succeed and start earning a little bit of loose change online.

The best part about this is that YOU do not need to have a college degree or diploma to taste success in this field, but you need to be smart and savvy to differentiate a legitimate business opportunity from a scam.

YOU do not have to be gifted, talented or skilled in selling your product or setting up a store, because you can leverage upon other company’s products and be their middleman or sales agent, and reap the rewards anytime and anywhere.

And of course YOU are required to provide the drive and belief that success is within your grasp, otherwise you’re just a passenger, a piece of log downstream, and riding along and hoping for the best.

Remember, hoping is not enough to make any business successful.

Success comes to those who strive continuously and willingly, despite whatever life throws at them.

Opportunity knocks on those who never surrender and continuously open their mind to new lessons.

Good luck.

How does one work from home and be considered an Internet Marketer, or IM?

I’m afraid that I may have to burst a bubble, you know the one where you think that working from home is all sugar, sweets and all things nice?

Here we go, *poof*!

Working from home is hard work. Internet marketing is an immense, and some say intense job.

What is required are dedication, a long term vision, and self-discipline.

First I will reassure you that neither am I trying to scare anyone nor desperately trying to minimise competitors.

I believe that it is extremely important for any would be internet marketers to be aware of the risks of this business because there are risks that needs to be addressed.

Risks that range from pitfalls of a scam trap (as 99.9% of all get rich quick schemes can be) to the simple matter of procrastinations or distractions in our everyday life.

I will talk more about risks in another post, but for now let me take you a little further into our subject matter.

So how does one work from home and be considered an Internet Marketer, or IM?

Loosely speaking you only need to sell something online and you are a qualified IM, but this process can be broken down further into:

  1. Selling of things online,
  2. Selling of services online.

Things can be handicrafts, your old cd albums, your dad’s unused fridge, or basically any physical things that can be can be held/touched with your hands.

Some of the more popular methods of selling these things are via websites (ebay, gmarket, blogs, etc) and classifieds (online auctions, ezines, forums, etc).

These methods can also be applied to the selling of services, which can be website designs, arts and graphics, accounting, or basically something that is of a serviceable nature.

Notice that all the methods discussed here are readily accesible at the click of a mouse and a web browser, and you will be amazed at just how minimal your requirements for starting out can be.

Here’s an example.

Let’s imagine that you have lots of Posters of celebrities and you want to sell them over the internet.

Here’s then what you might do:

  1. Place an advertisement to market your poster: You can do this by visiting online classified sites like Craigslist.com or Gumtree.com and place an ad to alert potential buyers of your items. Do note that some sites provide free placement of ads while some may charge a certain amount of fee. Always check thoroughly for details like these before you place your ad anywhere.
  2. Respond and negotiate with buyer:  Sometimes buyer simply chooses to purchase the item, and sometimes some prefer to do a little bit of negotiation. You will exchange messages until both party are satisfied and ready to transact.
  3. Deliver posters and receive payment: When both parties agree, buyer will then give you payments either via secure online payment gateways (Paypal, Alertpay, Credit Cards) or they will request for cash to be sent to you via snail mail in envelopes. Upon receipt of payment you will then proceed to deliver the items accordingly.

This is just one of the many examples that may be illustriated to you, and I am sure that there is one very important element for all that kick starts the whole process, and this is simply, the advertisement.

The advertisement of the product for sale is the be all or end all factor that seperates the difference between success and failure.

I’m pretty sure that you would want to be a successful IM or else you wouldn’t be here at all.

So my advice to you is to take extra care, ensuring that you put out an advertisement that targets your target market, convinces potential buyers to buy, and is cost effective.

Cost effective means that it may incur an expense from your pockets but despite that, your advertising cost should not be hurting your sales margin in the long run.

There is no guaranteed formula for a perfect advertisement, but slowly and surely, and as you gain more experience within this industry, you will begin to notice that some advertisement will work for you and your product while some won’t.

No matter what, advertisements come in all shapes and sizes, and it will be up to you, and with a little guidance from HWS, to come up with one that complements your product and boosts your sales income.

Remember If you’re not earning a profitable paycheck at the end of the day or the month, then it’s not work.

There’s a name for it and it’s called a hobby.

Benefits Of Working From Home

I cannot stress how beneficial and rewarding a work from home job can be, such as (but not limited to) monetary savings, the ability to spend quality time with your family, and becoming your own boss!

Lightly, I will touch on these subjects so as to enhance my reasons as to how beneficial they can be.

So how beneficial can they be?

1. Monetary Savings
Do you spend hundreds of dollars just on transport allowances every month when you commute to and from the workplace?

Working from home eliminates the need to spend on transport instantly and in this case, not only do you save money from not having to travel, you save valuable time as well.

Time which you can now spend on enriching your lives, like sending your child to school, going to the market without rushing, or relaxing away and reading a book.

If working at home grants you monetary savings from not having to worry about transport expenses, think about how much money you can save by not having to buy any office wear or official dress code.

Because your home is your own office and you decide what you want to wear, which means you can even work in your underwear at home, and noone will ever care about it.

2. Family
Would you agree with me that nothing in this world is more important than the ones that we are born with, or the ones that we bring into this world, which we dearly hold onto as family?

Family can be anyone from your parents, siblings, children, friends, spouses and in short basically anyone that you love dearly.

Imagine the value of a child who comes home from school to find his or her parents waiting for him, with meals prepared and plenty of love to share.

Imagine the value of spending time with a family member, be it at home watching tv, or elsewhere playing games together.

In our fast paced society that we live in, it is getting harder each day to spend quality time with our families, so no other work is more beneficial, in this context, than working from home.

Think about this, no more applying for leave, faking MCs, going AWOL just to be with your loved ones.

Working from home is truly beneficial indeed.

3. You’re The Boss
I’ll be honest with you that this is probably the hardest concept and the most misunderstood one of all about working from home.

Indeed, you are your very own boss because nobody commands you to finish that paperwork or noone is standing behind your shoulder and watching your performance at the cubicle.

You are free from all the boss-related complaints that you regularly hear about like, ‘you’re working too slow’ or ‘you’re required to OT (overtime) tonight’.

When you work from home, there is noone who will tell you what you should do or not do and this is one of the best rewards about working from home.

Forget about having anyone to pressure you all day and when you work on your own, you don’t have to rely on others for results anymore.

Your efforts determine your results, and as you pace yourself working from home, you will be free from the stress of having a boss who nags and demands constantly.

And of course last but not least, you absolutely have no worries of getting the axe and getting fired, because there is no one to fire you when you are your own boss.

Simply put, there is nore more worries of retrenchment or demotions.

So are you ready to work from home?

By now you can already imagine these illustrated benefits of working from home, but what you’re reading is only the tip of the iceberg.

Indeed, as enticing as the benefits of working from home may sound, there is a lot more to it than meets the eye.

This article you’re reading is not enough to discuss about the potentials of working from home.

Yes, I highly and avidly recommend you to a work from home job, but I will honestly warn that it is not just for everyone.

Sure, anyone with the right mentality, dedication and skills will reap the rewards, but if everyone works from home, then society will  fail.

We still need teachers to teach in school, farmers to tend to their farms, politicians to continue with their politics, and so on.

Until next time, remember it’s not about the money, it’s the journey.
